Decoder Ring - Big Day Out 2005
Decoder Ring is a band from Sydney Australia. Their hugely impressive debut offerings "Spooky Action at a Distance" and "Decoder Ring"(Hello Cleveland!/EMI) turned musical conventions on their head, and were instantly amongst 2002/2003's best releases. Well so say The Guardian (UK). The Sydney Morning Herald, The Age, The Courier Mail, Rolling Stone and Triple J.
Described as genre defying, Decoder Ring's emotive experimentalism offers the perfect mixture of electronica, rock, arthouse, ambience, dancefloor and cinematic orchestration.
Decoder Ring have contributed and collaborated on numerous drama, documentary and live productions. "The Nightshift" composed and performed by Decoder Ring was featured in Alex Proyas's Garage Days(2002). The Score for Somersault is their first commission as composers.

THE AGE - FEATURE ALBUM
"The film is Australian, but there isn't a desert wide-shot, a camel, an Akubra or a rascal-faced larrikin - a loveable rogue - in sight. Nor is there a heist and nor is there a David v Goliath struggle between the little man and the big, evil corporation. This one is different. And so is the beguiling soundtrack. It was one of the first things that struck me upon seeing the film. What is this music? Who is making this glacial music? It's a winter film, set in the NSW mountains; it's full of brave and artful depictions of winter landscapes, quite a departure for an Australian film. This strikes you, as a viewer. Then there's the magnetic performance by Abbie Cornish as a troubled soul wandering through the ice, which is striking again. But the music is quite something. It's used as well as the music in Lost In Translation - all those lovely twisted pop songs by Kevin Shields and Phoenix. For Somersault, Sydney mob Decoder Ring made all the music. It's kind of Icelandic, in parts. Not unlike Mum. But they also have a My Bloody Valentine fetish, and they use cellos. It's beautiful. Like the film. -- Chris Johnston "
